Laura Williams | BACP Counsellor in Bournemouth
I am a qualified and registered BACP counsellor in Bournemouth, offering a supportive, non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences at your own pace.
My aim is to help you make sense of your experiences in a way that feels respectful, collaborative and truly centred around what matters to you.
My therapeutic approach
I work as an integrative counsellor, which means therapy is shaped around you as a person, not a set formula. My training allows me to draw from different approaches, so we can find what feels most helpful for your unique needs and goals.
At the heart of my work is person-centred counselling, where you set the pace and bring whatever feels most important to you. I am also trauma-informed, so your experiences are always met with care, sensitivity and understanding. I am neurodivergent-affirming and will adapt how we work together to suit your communication style, needs and preferences. My aim is to offer a validating and accessible space for neurodivergent people seeking support.
If appropriate, I introduce practices from mindfulness, CBT, Gestalt or Transactional Analysis. We can also explore creative or grounding approaches together, such as drawing or fidget tools.
Who I support
I work with adults from all walks of life and with a wide range of experiences.
This includes people who may be:
- navigating anxiety, trauma or burnout
- struggling with self-esteem or identity
- experiencing relationship challenges
- exploring their neurodivergence (ADHD, autism, diagnosis or late diagnosis)
- living with visible or invisible disabilities
- part of the LGBTQ+ community
- supporting others in caring roles
You may also simply feel a desire to understand yourself more deeply or reconnect with your sense of self.
What therapy with me feels like
Therapy is not about being judged, analysed or told what to do. It’s about having a space where you can:
Explore thoughts and emotions
Recognise your own strengths
You are the expert on yourself. My role is to understand your perspective and support what matters most to you.
The relationship we build together is a key part of therapy, helping to create a foundation of trust, safety and genuine connection.
Values in my work
I am guided by the values of creating a space that feels safe, respectful and empowering. This includes:
- building a sense of safety and trust
- offering a non-judgmental and accepting space
- supporting authenticity and self-expression
- encouraging empowerment and self-understanding
I believe everyone has the capacity for growth and self-healing, and that therapy can be a place to reconnect with those strengths.
You are welcome to take your time in deciding if I am the right therapist for you.
My Experience and background
My journey into counselling began through working in helping roles, including as a frontline key worker during the Covid-19 pandemic. That time gave me space to reflect on what felt meaningful in my work and life, and it became clear that I valued connection, being able to sit with people, listen deeply and understand their experiences beyond the surface.
Alongside my counselling qualification, I have over ten years’ experience working in health and social care, supporting people at different stages of life. This experience has included supporting neurodivergent young people, adults living with disabilities, and people facing mental health challenges. I have also worked as a therapeutic mentor, helping young people who are navigating anxiety and trauma.
My background has deepened my understanding of the wider systems and challenges that can affect people’s lives and has shown me just how important it is to offer a space where you feel truly heard and supported.
and self-acceptance are almost revolutionary.” - Brené Brown
Start your therapy journey
Reaching out for counselling can feel like a big step, so take your time. There’s no pressure to have everything figured out or know exactly what you need before you get in touch. You can start by emailing me to introduce yourself or ask any questions. Once we’ve been in contact, we can arrange either:
- a full 50-minute initial meeting session (£30), or
- an optional 15-minute phone call if that feels easier for you first
The consultation is a chance for us to see if working together feels right, and there’s no obligation to continue.
