Why do we find it so hard to rest?

We all need different forms of rest, it’s often not enough to ‘just rest’. Here are some tips on the different types of rest to reflect on:

  • Physical – Sleep, nap, close your eyes, lay down
  • Emotional – Talking with someone you trust
  • Sensory – No screens for an hour
  • Social – Alone time to recharge
  • Creative – Being mindful in nature
  • Mental – Journaling

It is okay to slow down - rest IS progress.

The more you practice these acts of self-care the easier it will become.

If you are struggling to fully put things down and rest, if you feel like you’re constantly juggling areas of life and are in and out of burn out often then therapy is a great place to explore what you can do to find balance and live by your values of what’s important to you.

Your body and nervous system need to feel safe in order to fully rest, therapy can be a holistic exploration of many areas of yourself and your life.
